Man detained for desecrating church

Coimbatore: R. Sreejith (22) was on Thursday detained under the Goondas Act in connection with the desecration of an Infant Jesus statue at the St. Francis of Assissi Church on October 8.

Following a complaint, three special teams had been formed. It arrested Sreejith early on October 11.

Inquiries revealed that Sreejith, who is the City Youth Wing Secretary of Hindu Makkal Katchi (Hanuman Sena), had planned a series of such attacks. Sreejith who was lodged at Pollachi sub-jail was served the detention orders and lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison on Thursday. — Staff Reporter
