CHENNAI: Advocates boycotted courts on Thursday in response to a call by the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) to express concern over the treatment meted out to Tamils in Sri Lanka by the island army. Led by association president R.C. Paul Kanagaraj, they staged a demonstration on the High Court premises. Later, they took out a procession and handed over a memorandum at the Governor’s office. In the memorandum, submitted by a delegation, including Mr. Kanagaraj and the association secretary, M.Velmurugan, the association requested the State and the Central governments to extend monetary assistance to Tamils on the island. It said that India should intervene immediately and take steps to stop the “war on unarmed Tamils.” — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
