Master plan for SmartCity

DELIBERATIONS: Master plan consultant representatives from Collin Buchnan holding discussions with District Collector M. Beena in the city on Thursday.

KOCHI: A master plan that ensures facilities of international standards while retaining the unique features of Kochi and the State in general would be drawn up for the proposed SmartCity Kochi project, the master plan consultants for the project said.

The representatives from Collin Buchanan, the U.K.-based master plan consultant, HIL International, the infrastructure management consultants from the United States, and Mouchel, the U.K.-based management consultant, gave this assurance during their discussions held with District Collector M. Beena on Thursday. Mithun Beeru, the business development manager of SmartCity Kochi, was also present.

The team also held extensive discussions with the officials of the electricity, Public Works, revenue, water authority, and the police departments. The team also met M.C. Josephine, the chairperson of the Greater Cochin Development Authority. Ms. Josephine promised all assistance on the part of GCDA during the meeting.

The master planner mainly deals with the township management and urban planning, while the infrastructure management consultants, is entrusted with the electrification, water supply and cabling works in the project area and the management consultants coordinates the entire master plan and related activities.

The team comprised Peter Dijkhius, project director, Collin Buchanan; Don Huccheson, project director, HIL International; and Howard M., project director from Mouchel.

Meanwhile, a section of the families displaced from the project area are set to move to new houses on Saturday as part of the rehabilitation package.
