Sathyabama to sponsor TNVA

CHENNAI: Sathyabama University will be the official sponsor of the Tamil Nadu Volleyball Association for one year from now. An agreement to this effect was signed at the Volleyball Federation of India office on Friday evening between Marie Johnson, Director Sathyabama University, and K. Murugan, Secretary TNVA.

Gratitude

Mr. Murugan expressed gratitude to Sathyabama University, and more particularly to Mr. Johnson and his wife, Zeena Johnson, who was present on the occasion.

Mr. Murugan said that the sponsorship covered the expenses of conducting coaching camps for various groups and helping teams take part in national and other tournaments for the year starting from next month.

Expressing happiness at the opportunity to promote the game, Mr. Johnson, a basketballer himself, talked about the stature acquired by Sathyabama at the all-India inter-varsity competitions.

As a champion side, Sathyabama, possessed some of the outstanding talent in the state.

The University has a state-of-the-art indoor stadium constructed recently, and this would be put at the disposal of the TNVA for conducting senior coaching camps.

He was optimistic of India and Tamil Nadu in particular, gaining more international recognition in the continental and world championships.

Higher rating

Mr. Johnson hoped the agreement would help the state gain a higher rating at the national level.

Sathyabama is also sponsoring the State championships to come off during the last week of November. Volleyball administrator, Martin Sudhakar, and CDVA Secretary, Chitrapandian, were present at the signing ceremony.
