VIZIANAGARAM: TDP councillors have issued a notice to municipal Chairperson A. Suri Babu at the special council meeting, convened on Friday, threatening to intensify agitation if their three demands were not conceded before the next council meeting. Participating in the discussion on leasing out road margins in the town to hawkers and also road widening from Kayakaparameswari temple to SBI Main Branch to 60 feet from the existing 26 feet to 43 feet, TDP floor leader V.S. Prasad handed over a letter to the Chairperson stating that they were yet to receive a positive answer to their demands namely ‘equal justice’ in the allotment of LPG connections under ‘Deepam’ scheme, the final list of beneficiaries under Indiramma phase-III must be approved only after the councillors concerned endorsed it and lastly there must be transparency in the sanction of various development work in wards. It may be recalled that the councillors staged a sit-in protest in front of the podium of the Chairperson last week on the same demands. Earlier, the councillors approved the collection of road margin cess from hawkers if only officials acted with responsibility. S.V.V. Rajesh, 38th ward councillor, said the municipality had incurred loss on this account due to negligence of then Revenue Officer. On road widening, the Municipal Chairperson said there was opposition from a few building owners and this would be sorted out through discussion. There are 142 buildings on either side of the road and some 17 owners approached the court. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
