HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party president N. Jayaprakash Narayan has said that formation of district governments as envisaged by his party would open a new chapter in the administrative history of India. “District governments alone will provide an answer to the people’s problems irrespective of the region in which they reside,” he remarked at the party’s zonal conference attended by constituency in-charges from Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts here on Friday. He said LSP would declare district governments headed by a premier on January 23, the birth anniversary of Subash Chandra Bose, who stood for empowerment of local governments. He said the LSP was committed to transferring 50 per cent of the funds for development to local governments through the district governments. In addition, it would make a per capita grant of Rs. 1,000 to every local body. Dig at politiciansDr. Narayan said that politicians who concentrated on political power in the State capital and ensured it remained in dynastic hands were more dangerous that terrorists, who indulged in occasional bomb blasts. This was the reason for perpetuation of poverty despite decades of implementation of welfare schemes. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
