Spadea beats Prakash

New Delhi: Indian Davis Cupper Prakash Amritraj put up a valiant fight before losing 3-6, 6-3, 6-7(4) to top seed Vincent Spadea in the quarterfinals of the $50,000 Calabasas Challenger tennis event in California, USA.

Ankita in final

Meanwhile, Ankita Bhambri made a remarkable comeback to shock second seed Zuzana Kucova and reach the summit clash of the $25,000 ITF event in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday. The unseeded Indian upset her opponent from Slovak Republic 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals of the hard court event.

She will now fight it out with Belgium’s seventh seed Tamaryn Hendler, who reached the final after her Hungarian opponent Palma Kiraly conceded the match while trailing 4-6, 6-3, 0-4 in the other semifinal.

Kiraly had ended Rushmi Chakravarthi’s campaign 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. — PTI
