Karnataka retains title

Chennai: Karnataka successfully defended its national tenpin bowling team championship title, securing four gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals as the event concluded on Sunday. Delhi finished second with two gold, one silver and one bronze and Tamil Nadu third with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

Tamil Nadu struck its first gold of the championship by winning the Team of Five event, defeating Karnataka by 70 pins. In the men’s all-events, two-time national champion Harshavardhan Sarda won Delhi’s second gold medal. The silver and bronze medals were claimed by Girish Gaba and Vijay Punjabi (both from Karnataka).

In the women’s all-events, Pratima Hegde of Karnataka won the gold by defeating the current National Champion Sumathi Nallabantu of Andhra Pradesh by 97 pins. Swapna Mitra of Karnataka finished third.

The standout performers of the Championships were Pratima Hegde, who won four gold medals and one silver medal, and Harshavardhan Sarda, who clinched two gold, one silver and one bronze.
