Rain plays spoilsport

BANGALORE: On a rain hit opening day, Kerala made 165 in 61 overs against Karnataka in the Col. C.K. Nayudu (South Zone) under-22 cricket tournament here on Sunday.

An unbeaten 54 (5x4, 2x6) by Sunil Thomas and a steady 41 by skipper Abhishek Hegde helped Kerala reach a moderate total after an early slump. In reply, Karnataka was five without loss.

In another match, Hyderabad made 168 for eight against Goa, before a heavy downpour stopped play at 4.15 p.m.

The Andhra-Tamil Nadu match also suffered a similar fate. After a late start at 10 a.m., play was called off at 3.30 p.m. with Andhra on 72 for the loss of six wickets.

The scores:

Andhra 72 for six in 28 overs vs. Tamil Nadu.

Kerala 165 in 61overs (Abhishek Hegde 41, Sunil Thomas 54 n.o.) vs. Karnataka 5 for no loss in three overs.

Hyderabad 168 for eight in 71.2 overs (Prameeth Kumar 53) vs. Goa.
