Swollen: Santhanavarthini river at Kulathur near Dindigul in full flow. THENI: Water level rose substantially in all major dams, irrigation tanks and other water bodies in the district thanks to torrential rain in the past three days. Four huts here were damaged in heavy rain — one was completely destroyed and three were partially damaged. Rainwater inundated Sri Rangapuram Colony here. Since rainwater entered houses, affected people were rescued and given shelter in a community hall. The entire inflow of 546 cusecs was discharged from Sothuparai dam as the reservoir was overflowing for the past three days. The water level crossed the total height of 126 feet. Storage level in the dam in the same period last year was only 62.34 feet. Level in the Vaigai dam stood at 55.5 feet which was 47.47 during the same period last year. The inflow was a whopping 6,291 cusecs and the discharge was 741 cusecs. Periyar dam had water up to 123.20 feet thanks to a heavy inflow of 4,750 cusecs. The discharge was 1,350 cusecs. The storage in the dam was more comfortable last year. It had 131.20 foot of water last year. Storage level in Manjalar dam stood at 55.40 feet and the storage was 444.48 mcft. It was just 72.48 mcft last year. Inflow into the dam was just 211 cusecs and the discharge was 284 cusecs. Palani received the highest amount of rainfall in Dindigul district. Rain continued to lash several parts of the district last night. The sky was overcast on Tuesday morning and sunny in the evening. Kodaikanal received moderate showers since Tuesday afternoon. Flow in Santhanavarthini, Kudaganaru and other rivers was good.
