Rain-battered road needs attention in Salem

Road to development? Slush and potholes on Sivasakthi Nagar main road in Ward 59, Salem pose a threat to road users.

SALEM: Sivasakthi Nagar main road in Ward 59, full of slush and water, is a picture of total neglect.

This important artillery road connects many areas including Shanmuga Nagar and Bharathi Nagar before joining Tiruchi main road. The road also connects a burial ground.

But the recent rains have left it in shambles.

A few months ago, Salem Corporation undertook the construction work of a culvert over its drainage line. But the road has been left untouched.

Nearly 500 families use the road regularly. School-going children and office-goers are the worst-hit.

The road which has a number of potholes remains a safety threat for unwary road users. Accidents and broken axles of vehicles are the common sights on this road.

Despite repeated requests, the civic body remains a mute witness to people’s sufferings who has requested it to take up the road work immediately after the rainy season.

That alone will solve our problems, said one of the residents.
