Vigneshwar, Subashini set records on day one

ARIYALUR: M. Vigneshwar of Phoenix Athletics Club in the boys’ U-18 triple jump and K. Subashini of St. Joseph’s Prime Sports Academy in the girls’ under-14 shot put set new meet records on the opening day of the State junior athletics championship, organised by the Perambalur District Athletics Association, here on Thursday.

Vigneshwar had a leap of 14.83m to erase the old record of 14.56m set by Vinoth Raj, while Subashini’s 9.58m effort bettered the old record of 9.24m set by Lakshmipriya.

The results: Boys: U-20: Triple jump: 1. Manikandan (St. Joseph’s Prime Sports Academy), 14.39m, 2. Rajkumar (SBOA AC), 3. Bobin Raj.

Ur-18: Triple jump: 1. M. Vigneshwar (Phoenix Athletics Club), 14.83m, NMR; B. Azarudeen (SDAT); Surendar (USF).

U-16: Shot put: 1. Francis (SDAT), 13.65m, 2. Deivasigamani (SDAT), 3. Ramanathan.

U-14: Shot put: 1. Lakshmanamurthy (SDAT), 13.13m, 2. Praveen Kumar (SBOA AC), 3. Subash Chandra Bose (SJPSA).

Girls: U-20: Triple jump: 1. Petchiammal (SJPSA), 11.42m, 2. Delphin Rani (SJPSA), 3. Rama (SJPSA); Javelin: 1. Jacquelyn Mary (Perambalur AC), 35.04m, 2. Ruby (SDAT), 3. Malathi (SJPSA).

U-18: High jump: 1. Ananthi (SDAT), 1.63m, 2. Shenbagapriya (SDAT), 3. Samantha (SDAT).

U-16: High jump: 1. Sophia Lawrence (SBOA AC), 1.51m, 2. Lavanya (SDAT), 3. Swarnamalathi (SDAT).
