Vung Tau (Vietnam): Padmini Rout leads the World under-14 girls chess championship with full five points at the end of the fifth round of the World youth championship here. In the boys’ under-10 section, Diptayan Ghosh and Arjun Bharat are among the six leaders with 4.5 each. In the under-16 section, B. Adhiban and Debashis Das lead with 4.5 points each. Though Vidit Gujrati was held to a draw in the under-14 section, he continues to be a joint leader. Last round leaders Sunyasaktha Satpathy, Sayantan Das and Bhakti Kulkarni were defeated. Debashis sprang a big surprise by beating his more famous compatriot, IM S.P. Sethuraman of Chennai. With the black pieces, Das controlled the queen-side where both had castled and won through a mating attack. New rule testedThe new rule that players who are not in their seats at the scheduled start would automatically lose their game was put to the test in the encounter between Derekshani Dorsa of Iran and Ivana Furtado.
