CHENNAI: The ‘Q’ Branch CID police arrested noted film directors Seeman and Ameer on charges of sedition here on Friday night. According to police sources, a case was registered against the directors by the ‘Q’ Branch unit in Ramanathapuram based on their speech at a meeting held at Rameswaram on October 19. The meeting was organised by the film industry to protest against the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka. They were charged under Section 124 (A) IPC (Whoever brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt or excites disaffection towards the Government), Section 153 (A) (1) (b) (Committing any act which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between two different religions, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities and which disturbs or is likely to disturb public tranquillity) and Section 13 (1) (b) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (Whoever advocates, abets, advises or incites the commission of any unlawful activity). © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
