Peaceful bandh observed in Chamarajanagar

CHAMARAJANAGAR: A peaceful bandh was observed in Chamarajanagar on Friday. The bandh call was give by member of the Chamarajanagar Town Municipal Council (TMC) to protest against the Government’s decision to supply drinking water to eight villages situated between T. Narasipur and Chamarajanagar from the pipeline that supplies water to Chamarajanagar town.

Members of the TMC, their supporters and the public, led by TMC president Suresh Nayak, took out a procession from the council premises to the district offices complex. They submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Manojkumar Meena. They said that though the Government had directed the authorities concerned to supply drinking water to the eight villages, it had not exempted the gram panchayats from paying water tax and electricity bill.

The protesters urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct the officials concerned to install water meters in the villages.

All business establishments, shops, hotels and cinemas in the town remained closed.
