The Pan-American jet clipper Mayflower, with 100 journalists abroad, on October 24 made its first non-stop flight between New York and London. It failed by 30 minutes to beat the record of six hours 12 minutes set up three weeks ago by the Comet IV of the British Overseas Airways Corporation. It took six hours and 42 minutes to cover 3,550 miles.
