BHEL wins prestigious order

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Saturday announced that it had won its first commercial order of Rs. 1474 crore from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for 660 MW steam turbine generators with supercritical parameters against international competitive bidding (ICB). The contract is for setting up the 2x660 MW steam turbine generator package at Barh thermal power project Stage-II, located about 75 km from Patna in Bihar.

The supercritical steam parameters for this project are higher than those for the other supercritical projects now under installation by NTPC at Sipat and Barh Stage-I, resulting in higher efficiency, according to an official announcement here.

Scope of work

BHEL had earlier bagged the order for the steam generator (boiler) package for the same power project from NTPC. BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning, the statement said. For the project, the Turbine Generators will be manufactured by BHEL at its Haridwar works, while the company’s Hyderabad plant will supply the Pumps and Heaters.
