An interest free loan of Rs. 2 lakh given to construct a community funeral hall


Udhagamandalam: A Chennai-based non-governmental organisation Development Promotion Group (DPG) and the Nilgiri Documentation Centre (NDC) teamed up to brighten the Diwali celebrations of the residents of Mokkakeri in Kannerimukku near Kotagiri on Monday.

The village council of Mokkakeri was given an interest free loan of Rs. 2 lakhs to construct a community funeral hall under the State Government’s Namakku Naamey Thittam.

On the occasion, three Self-help groups were given a revolving credit of Rs. 50,000 each.

The benefits were handed over by the president, Kotagiri Panchayat Bojan.

The honorary director, NDC, D.Venugopal, presided.

He said that the DPG, which supported social development among women, children and neglected sections of society, has offered to consider proposals for micro finance in the area.
