Rupesh, Vikram in quarterfinals

NEW DELHI: Rupesh Roy ousted the sixth-seeded Vadim Alekseenko of Ukraine 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to move into the quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at Lahore, Pakistan, on Tuesday.

B. Vikram Reddy was the other Indian to make the quarterfinals and he did so, beating Lazare Kukhalashvili of Georgia 7-6(4), 6-4 in the second round.

The top-seeded Sunil Kumar, however, went down 2-6, 5-7 to Patrik Taubert of Germany in the pre-quarterfinals.

Yannick Nelord also lost 5-7, 2-6 to the third-seeded Aqeel Khan of Pakistan in the pre-quarterfinals.

In doubles, Sunil Kumar in partnership with Aqeel Khan bt Kirati Siributwong and Peeraki Siributwong of Thailand 4-6, 6-1, 11-9 in the quarterfinals.

Rupesh Roy in partnership with Hyun-Soo Lim of Korea made the semifinals with a 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-4 victory over I-Ta Chen and Hsin-Han Lee of Chinese Taipei.
