India’s cagers shine

New Delhi: The India men’s and women’s under-17 basketball teams bagged gold and bronze medals respectively, in the first Asian Beach Games held in Bali, Indonesia, from October 24 to 26.

The men’s team defeated the Philippines 23-17 in the gold medal match, while the women’s side beat Malaysia 34-25 to pocket the bronze, a Basketball Federation of India release said. Earlier, the men defeated host Indonesia 34-18 to enter the final. The women’s team had an easy outing against Indonesia, winning 34-17 but went down to Japan 13-30 in the battle for a place in the final. — PTI
