P. Sivanandi Coimbatore: P. Sivanandi on Tuesday assumed office as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Coimbatore Range. He replaces Ms. Seema Agrawal who was recently promoted as Inspector-General of Police. On assuming office, Mr. Sivanandi had discussions with Superintendents of Police, G. Karthikeyan (Coimbatore), A. G. Babu (the Nilgiris) and Avinash Kumar (Erode). Talking to presspersons, Mr. Sivanandi said that the focus would be to bring in community policing in a phased manner. It would be done in consultation with the SPs, he said. The objective would be to bridge the gap between the people and the police. Mr. Sivanandi will be holding meetings every week in all the three districts to listen to the public and also to sort out welfare related issues of policemen and their families. Mr. Sivanandi said that rather than expecting a complainant to visit the police station, receiving a complaint and issuing a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) on the spot would be considered by the police. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
