15 injured in clash, 35 held

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: Fifteen persons were injured in a clash that broke out between two groups at Amur near Vathalai in the district on Monday afternoon.

The police have arrested 35 persons from both sides in connection with the clash.

It all began after one Palanisamy, working as a labourer in a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation bar, went to a mutton shop, owned by Rajendran, to buy meat.

A quarrel that broke out between the two over the price ended in a scuffle.

Some time later, when Palanisamy’s father A. Sannasi went to call him for lunch, a group entered into an argument with Sannasi over his son’s behaviour.

Subsequently, the two sides clashed using wooden logs, leaving 15 persons including two women injured.

The sources said 11 persons were admitted to Government Hospitals in Musiri and Srirangam.

Cases were registered against both sides under various sections based on complaints lodged by Sannasi and one Krishnamurthy who were also injured in the clash, the sources said. The police are investigating.
