Bangalore: A temple trust in Jalahalli has been levied Rs. 3 lakh as fine by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for dumping waste in a neighbouring vacant land. BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya issued the direction while inspecting various parts of the city to check clearance of garbage and to monitor progress of various development works on Tuesday. During the inspection, the Commissioner was informed by the owner vacant land adjacent to the temple that Ayyappaswamy Temple Trust on Subroto Mukherjee Road in Jalahalli had dumped the waste in his site. Also, the Commissioner directed Health Officer (East) to impose a penalty of Rs 2.5 lakh on the garbage contractor for not carrying out cleaning operations in Neelasandra area. It was also found that the contractor had dumped the garbage in the drain near Neelasandra for which the Commissioner directed the officials to initiate action against the contractor. Similarly, the officials were asked to take action against contractors concerned for not cleaning some areas in J.C. Nagar, Jayamahal, Tannery Road, Pottery Town, St. John’s Road, Austin Town and surrounding areas since two days. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
