CHENNAI: Cash and jewellery worth Rs.4 lakh were gutted in a fire that was allegedly triggered by a cracker in a house at Valasaravakkam on Monday. The police said Krishnan of Bhajanaikoil Street lodged a complaint that a ‘rocket’ let off by some unidentified persons broke into the house and burst, setting clothes, paper and other combustible materials afire. A total of Rs.1.5 lakh in cash and 20 sovereigns of ornaments were damaged. The Valasaravakkam police have registered a case. Kancheepuram staff reporter writes: In Kancheepuram, thatched portions of a house was damaged in a fire that broke out due to bursting of a fire cracker in Kancheepuram town on Tuesday morning. On receiving the information, a fire tender was rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control within few minutes.
