Mayawati: Centre, Maharashtra failed to curb MNS violence

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has condemned Tuesday’s lynching of a labourer from the State by a gang allegedly associated with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena at the Khapoli suburban railway station in Mumbai.

In a letter to the Centre and the Maharashtra government on Wednesday, Ms. Mayawati demanded immediate action against those responsible for the violence against the migrant population from the north Indian States.

The Chief Minister accused the Centre and the Maharashtra government of having failed to control the violence let loose by MNS supporters against north Indians.

Dharamdeo Rai, migrant labourer from Goria Ghat village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, was pulled out of a compartment and killed when he was returning home. Rai is survived by his wife and daughter. He has three brothers.

Ms. Mayawati sanctioned Rs. 2 lakh to the bereaved family.
