“Power supply can be severed on safety grounds”

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission on Wednesday clarified that power supply could be disconnected not only on account of default of payment but also on safety grounds.

In a statement, Commission Secretary R. Balasubramanian said Section 185 of the Act stipulates that Indian Electricity Rules, 1956, would remain in force till regulations under Section 53 were framed by the Central Electricity Authority.

“As the regulations under Section 53 are not ready, the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956, will supplement Section 56 on disconnection of supply. Clauses 46, 49, 52 and 121 of the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956, provide for disconnection, primarily on grounds of safety,” he said.
