The festive spirit continues as Young World Quiz returns

BANGALORE: Schoolchildren may carry on with the festive spirit as the annual The Hindu Young World Quiz competition returns to Bangalore on November 6.

The regional finals of the multi-city quiz competition will be held at one of the city’s well-known landmarks Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Gayathri Devi Park Extenstion, Vyalikaval.

The Hindu Young World Quiz is an integral part of The Hindu – NIE initiative and attracts students from over 300 schools. The entry cards for the ninth edition of the competition have been sent to the schools.

Any two students from classes VI to IX can form a team. A school can send a maximum of three teams. The completed entry cards have to be sent to the Circulation Department of The Hindu, Bangalore, immediately. After registering the entries, the entry cards will be sent back to the schools.

The teams have to report at the venue latest by 1.15 p.m. as the written preliminary round of the quiz will start at 2 p.m. to select six teams for the Regional Final on stage. The quizmaster will explain the rules of the competition. Teams are directed not to carry mobile phones inside the auditorium.

The Hindu will meet the cost of travel, boarding and lodging of the team and for one accompanying parent or teacher.

Cash prizes and gift hampers await the winners. The winning team from Bangalore will become richer by Rs. 8,000, while the first runner-up will carry home Rs. 6,000 and the second runner-up Rs. 4,000.

Besides, all the winners will be pampered with gifts from the sponsors.

This year’s title sponsor is Extramarks.com. The associate sponsors are Pepsico (Cheetos), DC Mango, Kissan (Amaze Brain Food) and Vizag Steel.

Lotte (Caramilk), Encyclopaedia Britannica, Firefox Bikes, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Penguin Books, GM Pens (Reynolds), and State Bank of Travancore are the national sponsors.

The regional sponsors are: GRS Fantasy Park, Mysore, and Lunar Bags, Mysore, while Dabur (Real) fruit juice is the official beverage. Quizwalahs are once again managing the event, while quizmaster V.V. Ramanan will host the show.
