He was nabbed in Mumbai Tip-off provided by his relative CHENNAI: Jugnu (35) of Seven Wells area in the city, who was wanted in connection with the abduction and murder of a two-year-old boy of Sowcarpet, was arrested by the Mumbai police on Tuesday. Joint Commissioner of Police (North) Abhay Kumar Singh said the city police had taken custody of Jugnu and he would be produced in a local court and brought to Chennai. “Based on a specific input that the suspect was seen on the Kalpa Devi Road in Mumbai, we alerted the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police who nabbed him.” The accused kidnapped A. Monic, his relative’s son, on September 26 for ransom. However, even before any negotiations could be made, he brutally killed the boy by thrashing his head on the railway track near Thirumullaivoyal on the city outskirts and escaped. A special team tracked the mobile phone calls made by Jugnu and tried to locate him in Kerala, Orissa, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. “We were following his movements on a daily basis. The last call he made was from Nasik. He then went to Pune and stayed in a lodge there which we managed to locate. However, the lodge staff said Jugnu had left stating that he would come back in three days, but did not turn up,” Mr. Singh said. The tip-off on Jugnu’s location in Mumbai was passed on to the police by an informer, who happens to be his relative, the police said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
