CHENNAI: ABM Infotech blanked Chennai Telephones 8-0 in a Chennai Hockey Association’s first division match at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, here on Tuesday. Jagan (2), Gopinath (2), Raja (2), Krishna Kumar (1) and Shantha Kumar (1) were the scorers. In another contest, Tamil Nadu Postal defeated HVF Avadi 2-0 with Kamala Kannan and Rajan finding the target. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of Era Sambantham, former Mayor of Madras, who served as the vice-president of the Tamil Nadu Hockey Association and president of the Kancheepuram District Hockey Association. Sambantham passed away on Monday. SRM finishes runner-upSRM University lost to Bangalore 0-2 in the final of the South Zone inter-university badminton tournament for women but managed to qualify for the all-India finals. In the competition organised by the Kuvempu University from October 25 to 28, SRM, represented by Annez (captain), Amrin and Archana, beat VIT (2-0), beat Manipal (2-0), beat Pondicherry (2-0) in the quarterfinals and beat Karnataka University (2-1) in the semifinals. Hindu boys win titleHindu SSS and Chettinad Vidyashram clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the CBSE Cluster V basketball tournament at JJ Indoor Stadium here recently. Hindu SSS beat PSBB SSS (K.K. Nagar) 49-45 in the boys’ final, while Chettinad bagged the girls’ crown with a 33-18 victory over PSBB (Nungambakkam).
