AIADMK activists block roads

Coimbatore: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadres, including sitting MLAs and former ministers, were removed by the police when they attempted to stage road blockades at various places in the district on Thursday in protest against reported pelting of stones at their party General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa’s cavalcade at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district on Thursday.

Accusation

The party members accused the State Government of having failed to “provide adequate security cover to former Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa”.

They protested against the act.

In Coimbatore City nearly a hundred party workers were removed by the police when they marched from the party office on Huzur Road and squatted on the busy Avanashi Road. Those removed included five sitting MLAs S.M. Velusamy, S.P. Velumani, T. Malaravan, R. Chinnasamy and O.K. Chinnaraj.

In many taluk headquarters and towns in Coimbatore district such as Mettuppalayam, Pollachi, Palladam, Tirupur, Karamadai, Kavundampalayam, Pollachi and Periyanaickenpalayam too the party activists tried to block roads. They were removed by the police.
