MALAPPURAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) will launch an awareness campaign to combat religious extremism in the State. The campaign will uphold the slogan to ‘corner religious extremists,’ said K. Ummer, district secretary of the CPI(M) in a statement here on Thursday. Mass dharnas, marches and public meetings would be staged at 15 centres in the district on November 4. Mr. Ummer said religious extremists were attempting to set up their camps in Kerala. They were trying to canvas youngsters by donning the mask of religious and human rights workers. Youths with criminal, underground and mafia background were being recruited to terrorist organisations, he said. Innocent youths were being misguided in the name of religious studies, he said. The CPI(M) leader said that terrorist organisations had no respect for any religion or organisations. “Terror is beyond any religion or organisation. The incidents from Kashmir to Malegaon have been proof for that," said the CPI(M) leader. He warned the people that the Sangh Parivar which threatened the stability of the country by hunting down the minorities and those who turn to terrorism to oppose them were equally dangerous to the country. The district secretariat of the CPI(M) called upon all religious organisations to be cautious against the designs of terrorists. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
