Training in village industries

MADURAI: Training in village industries would be offered at Gandhi Niketan Ashram, Dr. J.C. Kumarappa Institute of Rural Technology and Development at T. Kallupatti in Madurai district from November 12.

Five-month training in tailoring and embroidery, four-month training in servicing of electronics and electrical appliances, rural mechanic, three-month training in cutting and tailoring, two-month training in fitter, plumber and pump mechanism, two wheeler mechanism, servicing of refrigerator and air-conditioning mechanism, electric wireman, detergent cake making, spices and masala, two-week training in screen printing, week-long training in cleaning powder making, detergent powder, fruit jam and squash and pickles making, and four-days training in bio manure and vermin compost would be offered. Under stipendiary programmes of six-month in composite rural engineering (simple electric works and sheet metal fabrication), three months in footwear and leather goods, electrical motor winding, steel fabrication, fancy leather, and rexin goods, two months in toilet and laundry soap-making, hand-made paper conversion, exercise book manufacturing, fancy leather goods, fruits and vegetable processing, and one month training in motor rewinding would be given. According to Principal R. Rajendran, those who have passed SSLC and above and in the age group of 18 to 45 years will be eligible for admission.

For students in the stipendiary programmes, a monthly stipend of Rs. 800 would be paid towards their boarding charges. Outstation candidates would be given free hostel accommodation.

Candidate should pay minimum Rs. 100 per month toward course fee, Rs. 50 towards registration fee and Rs. 800 per month towards boarding charges.
