Young World Quiz today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stage is set for the annual battle of brains — the ninth edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz competition, to be held at Tagore Centenary Hall here on Friday.

In addition to Thiruvananthapuram, this year’s quiz is being held at Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangalore, Chennai, Puducherry, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Vishakhapatnam. The all- India final will be held at Vishakhapatnam on November 13, 2008.

The annual event is a hotly-contested one for quiz teams representing various schools.

Regional finals

The contest — presented by Extramarks.com and managed by Quizwallahs — will begin at 10 a.m. with a preliminary round at the end of which six teams will be selected for the regional finals which will be held the same day.

Any two students — from Classes VI to IX — can form a team. A school can send a maximum of three teams. The teams can report at the hall from 8.30 a.m. onwards and should compulsorily carry with them the entry cards in original.

The regional finals will begin at 11.30 a.m. and the prize distribution will be done at 1 p.m.

A.K. Jagannathan, Managing Director, State Bank of Travancore, will be the chief guest at the function. The best cheering squad gets a prize. All participant will be entitled to special gifts.

The national sponsors of the quiz are State Bank of Travancore, Penguin, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Reynolds, Firefox, Lotte Caramilk and Cycle Agarbathis.

The associate sponsors are DC Books, Mango, Cheetos and Kissan Amaze. The beverage sponsor is Real.

The regional sponsors of the event are CDC Cashews, QRS, Babas and Club Mahindra Holidays. The Young World Quiz is part of The Hindu – Newspaper in Education initiative.
