“Confusion at grade separator will end soon”

90 boards indicating routes for different locations have been installed

CHENNAI: The confusion prevailing at the grade separator in Kathipara will end in a couple of days, P. Sreenivas, Project Director, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), said here on Thursday.

Talking to reporters after a joint inspection of the facility, which was opened recently, along with Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner S.R. Jangid and Deputy Commissioner of Police, St. Thomas Mount, V.Varadharaju, he admitted that there was confusion among motorists on the ramps to be taken to different destinations.

“But there has been a marked improvement in the comfort level in the past two days, compared to that on Monday and Tuesday. In a day or two, there would be absolutely no confusion among the motorists,” Mr. Sreenivas said.

Work on two pedestrian subways, which have been proposed for the benefit of those walking across Grand Southern Trunk Road below the grade separator, would begin shortly. To improve illumination on the facility, high-mast lamps would be provided at six locations, Mr. Sreenivas said.

Mr. Jangid said that 90 boards indicating the routes for different locations have been installed at the grade separator and 20 more would be in place in a few days. At any given time, 10 police constables would be on duty in two shifts at different locations on the grade separator to guide the motorists.

A total of 15 private security personnel would be deployed by the National Highways Authority of India to assist the policemen.
