New Delhi: India on Friday asked Nepal to enhance security of planes flying to the Himalayan country. The demand was conveyed at the Home Secretary-level meeting between the two countries, a senior official said. The demand for more security to Indian aircraft operating in the Himalayan country assumes significance in view of the hijacking of IC-814 in December 1999 from Kathmandu to Kandahar. Sources said with Nepal being a hot spot for tourists from India, New Delhi made a strong case for a fool-proof security mechanism. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
