Ready to arrange 250 buses and charge as per norms, he says

GUNTUR: RTC Guntur Regional Manager S.M. Ansari has denied the charge levelled by the Telugu Desam Party that buses are not being spared for the party’s proposed Yuva Garjana.

Speaking to The Hindu on Friday, he said that former MLA S.M. Ziauddin and publicity secretary Raavi Ramachandra Rao met him on Thursday and sought 500 buses for the event. Mr. Ansari said that he had assured them of arranging 250 buses.

On the allegations of exorbitant charges, he clarified that as per the norms laid down by the corporation each bus would be given on rent for sixteen and half hours a day or 330 km and a sum of Rs.28 per km would be collected from the user. He said that this worked out to Rs.9,240 per bus. The total amount for all buses would work out to be close to Rs. 25 lakhs. The amount would have to be deposited first, he added. The TDP leaders who gave their nod for this proposal, however, failed to turn up at the office so far, Mr. Ansari said.
