Donations for Lankan Tamils fund

KARUR: A sum of Rs.2,26,500 has so far been collected towards Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund from philanthropists in the district, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh.

The Collector said that a total of 11 persons had donated liberally to the cause of the suffering Tamils in the island nation. The donors were Project Manager of Vijay Nirman Company Limited A. Bhupal (Rs.50,000), Managing Director of Atlas Export Enterprises M. Nachimuthu (Rs.25,000), members of Lions Club of Handloom Texcity, and others contributed liberally to the Fund.

The contributions came in following the request by the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, highlighting the plight of the Sri Lankan Tamils and the need to reach out to them. Public could also give new clothes, commodities, dresses, medicines, and other essentials, Mr. Venkatesh said.
