Warriors tames Lions

Vijay Lokapally

PANCHKULA: Chandigarh Lions surrendered meekly to Dhaka Warriors in what was a crucial match for the local outfit in the Indian Cricket League at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here on Friday night.

Dhaka Warriors, propelled by an excellent effort by Shahriar Nafees (73 not out) won by eight wickets to register its third victory in six matches to take the fourth slot in the list with six points while Chandigarh Lions stayed at six points from five matches.

The fare dished out by Chandigarh Lions was pedestrian and the absence of Dinesh Mongia and Chris Cairns, both suspended for indiscipline, did affect its approach.

Chandigarh Lions’ innings was jolted repeatedly and the most expensive blow came when Lou Vincent was run out without facing a ball.

His dismissal set the trend for the innings even though Chetan Sharma (27), Andrew Hall (29) and Bipul Sharma (30) did make an attempt to give the contest some respectability.

It all came to nothing as ‘Man of the match’ Nafees produced a quality innings.

The scores: Chandigarh Lions 137 for nine in 20 overs (Bipul Sharma 30, Mohammad Rafique three for 28) lost to Dhaka Warriors 138 for two in 17.5 overs (Shahriar Nafees 73 n.o., Alok Kapali 32 n.o.)
