Panchayat clerk’s body found

VILLUPURAM: Salai Agaram panchayat clerk R. Jayabalan (45) was found dead near a temple on the Villupuram-Puducherry road on Saturday. His family members said Jayabalan, who left the house on Friday night, did not return home.

Police investigation found out that after returning from a family function, Jayabalan, along with his friends M. Chezhian and E. Thiagu went to a secluded spot to consume liquor. During a drunken brawl, his friends allegedly beat Jayabalan to death. The police have arrested Chezhian and are hunting for the other person. — Special Correspondent
