Ramachandran honoured

CHENNAI: “Getting squash into the Olympics is the immediate goal,” said N. Ramachandran, the newly-elected President of the World Squash Federation, on his greatest challenge ahead after assuming the new position.

In his reply to the felicitations at a function organised by the ICL academy here on Saturday, the outgoing Secretary-General of the Squash Rackets Federation of India, said it was the ICL academy in the city that had changed the outlook of squash in the country. He thanked the then State Government, the SDAT and the Union Government for all the support in making the academy a reality.

He said the SRFI had an idea to start academies on similar lines in the other metropolitan cities. Earlier players, coaches, parents and officials, including the new Secretary-General of the SRFI, Srivatsan Subramaniam, showered praises on Mr. Ramachandran on his latest success.
