dated November 3, 1958: Pasternak’s letter

Boris Pasternak on November 1 appealed to Mr. Nikita Khrushchev to let him stay in Russia, declaring that departure abroad would be equivalent to death to him. The 68-year old Soviet author, who refused the Nobel Prize for Literature last week, asked the Soviet Prime Minister in a personal letter “not to take that extreme measure in relation to me.”
