In-laws held in lecturer murder case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The in-laws of a lecturer who taught at Pant Polytechnic in Okhla here have been arrested for allegedly killing him in his Pitampura flat on October 13.

M. G. Dekate was found dead in his flat with multiple injuries. His father-in-law Balaji Khushal Chapre and brother-in-law Prajwal Balaji Chapre, who reside in Nagpur, have been arrested in connection with the murder, the police said. During the course of investigations, the police team interrogated the colleagues, neighbours, relatives and friends of the deceased.

It was revealed that the victim and his wife had strained relations and she usually stayed with her parents in Nagpur. Apparently Mr. Dekate had sought divorce from his wife as she was less educated than him.

“The victim had expressed fear to his life and property from his in-laws to his friends and relatives,” the police added. During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to the crime.

“A day before the murder, the culprits had a heated argument with the victim over the phone. They reached Delhi on October 12 and visited Mr. Dekate’s house at night and stabbed him to death. After committing the murder, the two changed their clothes, kept the blood-stained clothes in a polythene bag, and left for Nagpur by train. They also took away the mobile phone of the deceased. Their blood-stained clothes have been recovered from near Dholpur,” the police said.

Balaji is a vendor and runs a mobile STD shop, while his son is a Class XII student.
