CHENNAI: For the first time ever, the Chennai Corporation on Monday began a training programme for its employees in an attempt to improve their efficiency.

Speaking at the inauguration of the training programme, Mayor M.Subramanian said: “We have decided to impart training to a total of 1,500 employees of the Corporation to improve the efficiency of the existing system. The first batch of 900 employees, including section managers, assistants and junior assistants, will be trained at a cost of Rs.37.50 lakh.”

The 900 employees will be trained in small groups of 30 each so that the normal functioning of the civic body is not affected.

A group will receive training for five days at the Anna Institute of Management, a designated nodal training institution of the government of Tamil Nadu.

“The training will make the process of creation of files and disposal of files of the Corporation faster and more efficient. The trained employees will also be more people-oriented in their approach,” said Mr.Subramanian.

“The training programme will include office procedure, service rules, accounting system and other skill transfer. A test will be administered at the end of the programme to assess the effectiveness of the learning process,” said Sheela Balakrishnan, Director of Anna Institute of Management.
