HYDERABAD: Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd is adopting ‘green chemistry’ method to achieve environment-friendly process of designing and manufacturing of drugs.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, vice-chairman and CEO of the company G.V. Prasad said that the company had been trying to be sustainable in its drug production in the last five years. Though the company launched green mechanism practice, it began measuring it only from the current year.

Releasing the Sustainability Report 2008 of the company, he said that green chemistry was nothing but incorporating the eco-friendly measures into the production process and reusing by-products. “We call it atomic-efficiency – use of least possible number of atoms,” he disclosed. The company was also making its buildings green and might go in for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) certification.
