Special officer for Tirupur assumes charge

Tirupur: C. Samayamoorthy assumed charge as special officer for the formation of Tirupur district here on Tuesday.

He took over the assignment in the presence of Revenue Divisional Officer P. Murugesh and Tahsildar S. N. Sulochana.

Later, Mr. Samayamoorthy told reporters that as a special officer, he would concentrate on works such as separation of land and revenue records, staff relocation from Erode and Coimbatore districts, and preparation of proposals for sites for the construction of Collectorate, offices of Superintendent of Police and various district-level offices.

“The Collectorate will function from a makeshift location till the new edifice is constructed,” he said.

Steps would be taken to identify the temporary building for the Collectorate in two weeks.

“The works pertaining to reorganisation of Tirupur district will be carried out in tandem with the Collectors of Coimbatore and Erode districts,” he said.

New taluk

Official sources said that as per the order issued by the government, the special officer in association with Collectors of Coimbatore and Erode districts would take steps to send a proposal for the formation of Sulur taluk, which would eventually fall under the jurisdiction of Coimbatore district.

Mr. Samayamoorthy is being assisted by a Deputy Collector, tahsildar, an assistant (clerical cadre), two stenographer-cum-typists, a junior assistant-cum-typist and four office assistants.
