245 tribals arrested

TIRUPATTUR : About 245 tribals belonging to Javadhi Hills were arrested on Tuesday for staging a protest outside the Tirupattur Sub Division Sub Collector office. They were seeking action on their long-pending demands, including the issue of community certificates. All the arrested were released later.The protest was headed by Gudiyatham MLA G. Latha.

The protestors also wanted to bring into force Forest Rights Act 2006. They wanted the State government to revoke the Government Order 1168-I, which prohibited the issue of patta in hill areas. Further, steps should be taken to issue patta to the people living in hill areas, they said.
