BERHAMPUR: Plans are being made for a ‘Greater Berhampur’ comprising Berhampur city, Chatrapur, Gopalpur and forty other villages in between these three townships. According to Berhampur Development Authority Chairperson Sarat Patnaik, the Town and Country Planning Organisation of the central urban development ministry has agreed to prepare master plan for the purpose. This master plan would be prepared keeping in view the infrastructural need of the area as per the rising population during next 25 to 30 years. On Tuesday a meeting was called up in Bhubaneswar by State Cabinet Minister Suryanarayan Patro to discuss the project and the ‘City Development Plan’ of the Berhampur municipality. This CDP has been prepared by the Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad. The meeting was attended by Berhampur MLA R.C.C Patnaik, BDA Chairperson and others. But the irony is that the city had its last master plan way back in 1969. Till now it has developed in an erratic unplanned manner. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
