SHIMOGA: Director of Fisheries H.S. Veerappa Gowda said on Monday that the fruits of research in fisheries should reach fishermen and farmers. WorkshopHe was speaking after inaugurating a two-day workshop on the present trend and diversification possibilities in fisheries organised by the Postgraduate Department of Studies and Research in Applied Zoology of the Kuvempu University in association with the Karnataka State Fisheries Department Graduate Technical Officers’ Association and the Department of Fisheries at Jnana Sahyadri here. Bridging gapEmphasising the need for bridging the gap between the policymakers, scientists and fishermen, he said that the fisheries sector had immense possibilities and opportunities which could prove to be profitable for farmers. He said that awareness should be created among fishermen and farmers about new opportunities in fisheries. Fishermen could expect additional profit by adopting modern methods of fisheries. Mr. Shetty said the State, academics and business establishments should work together to create an atmosphere conducive for fisheries in the State. Vice-Chancellor B.S. Sherigara presided over the function. K. Narayan, Karnataka State Fisheries Department Graduate Technical Association president, spoke on the significance of the workshop. Workshop coordinator M.
