City girl set to become ‘Wiz Kid’

Hyderabad: Fifteen-year-old Reema Khendry of Geetanjali High School will be representing the State at the grand finale of Horlicks Wiz Kid-2008 in Bangalore from November 10 to 14.

The competition has various categories of participation such as cultural events, debates and talent rounds that assess the overall personality of the participant.

But being one among the top participants from the State has only boosted her self confidence.

“I’m glad I was chosen for the finals and I’m looking forward to meeting other participants,” says Reema, who had to compete with 60 students from other schools in the elocution round of the Horlicks Wiz Kid held here in August last.

In all, the final event will have 64 students from Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka competing against each other to bag the Horlicks Wiz Kid title.

“I’m very excited about the final because I will be contesting with the best students not only from India, but also from Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. But more importantly, I will make friends during my time there,” chirps in Reema, who also plays basketball.

However, there is a serious side to this young girl. With all finalists being asked to make a project based on a social issue, Reema decided to make one on children’s health.

“At present I’m doing a survey with the help of the M.V. Foundation to find out about hygiene awareness among school children. So far, I’ve visited a few government schools and found out that even though they don’t have adequate facilities, there is awareness among them about good health and hygiene,” says Reema.

Her parents, Rakesh Khendry and Bela Khendry, feel that their daughter would come out with flying colours at the finals.

“Since childhood, Reema has been participating in elocution and debates and has won many prizes. I’m sure she will do well in this competition too,” smiles Mrs. Khendry.
