HAMPI: The State Government plans to constitute an award in the name of Sri Krishna Devaraya, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Sri Krishna Devaraya the powerful emperor of the Vijayanagara empire, according to Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy. Speaking at the valedictory function of the Hampi Utsav, Mr. Reddy said that the award would be conferred on people who have contributed to the promotion of art, literature, culture and music. He said a formal announcement of instituting the award would be announced by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa shortly. The process of constituting the selection committee would begin immediately after the sub-committee was constituted by the Government to chalk out plans for the celebrations, he added. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
